Kalinda is an epidemiologist who has worked in the research sector for over 20 years. Her interest is in empirically addressing complex health disparities in populations through existing data.

In 2019, Kalinda’s research addressed issues of quality and the utilisation of data pertaining to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Her areas of focus included the measurement of health disparities, with a particular focus on cancer treatment and outcomes.

At the time of this event, she was on a number of national and international research committees such as the International Group for Indigenous Health Measurement, and also holds a number of different roles, including Deputy Editor of the Health Promotion Journal of Australia.

As a young leader in her field with a PhD in Cancer Epidemiology, Kalinda shared the steps she took and how she came to the realisation she could combine her love for data and research with her love for her people to make lasting differences, that have seen her hold honorary fellowships at Menzies School of Health Research and the University of Sydney.
