Sam Floreani has come a long way from her compulsory ‘touch typing’ computer classes in Year 7 and now is the Program Director for Code Like a Girl. Sam plays a key role in Code Like a Girl’s mission; to provide women and girls with the confidence, tools and knowledge to enter, and flourish in the world of coding.

Recognising the lack of diversity in this space, Sam felt compelled to begin her Code Like a Girl journey back in 2017. Sam has volunteered for many years in the gender equality space and loves breaking down stereotypes to empower women in whichever field they choose - especially tech!

Her days range from coordinating coding camps for young women, to organising events that promote diversity and gender equality in tech to analysing social impact data.

Sam speaks about her university days studying politics and realising just how big a role technology plays in our lives. Sam transitioned to a data science degree and day one was the first time she had ever written a line of code in her life. She was made to feel inadequate and out of place. But she didn’t want to give up. Sam connected with the girl gang of women in tech through Code Like a Girl. Sam is now encouraging and supporting other women into coding, many of whom were in the same position she was a few years ago.
