Encouraging Territory women to take up digital careers through the inaugural 'Inspiring Women into Technology Summit'.
Overview
The summit is a key first step to increase opportunities for women and girls in the Territory's digital industry.
Women are underrepresented in ICT jobs; nationally around 28% of ICT jobs are filled by women and this needs to change. High income digital jobs are increasing and it is vital that women have the opportunity and skills to take up digital careers and contribute to the future digital landscape.
Benefits
The summit will showcase digital career options and share the journeys of successful 'digital women' to increase awareness of job opportunities and pathways for Territory women and girls.
Post summit, further actions will be developed with the local ICT industry to build on outcomes and provide practical steps to achieving gender balance in this important industry.
2019 progress update
The first Inspiring Women into Technology Summit was held at the Darwin Convention Centre on 29 May 2019 as part of the Digital Futures event.
The Summit highlighted exciting developments in digital technologies and included keynote speakers, a panel discussion, interactive activities and information booths to foster confidence in attendees to grow their digital skills and knowledge so they can take up jobs or pursue a career in the digital workforce.
Over 200 people attended the Summit and feedback from attendees was very positive.
