Overview
A future remote health, science and technology park for Northern Australia would provide a hub for scientists, health researchers, the health industry and academics to innovate and test emerging medical science technologies that are applicable to remote environments.
Procurement action for the initial feasibility assessment will be progressed in 2018-19.
Benefits
Bringing medical science researchers and innovators together with a dedicated focus on using technology to improve remote health outcomes has potential to deliver substantial benefits to over 30% of the Territory's population who live in regional and remote communities.
2019 progress update
The Department of Health commissioned a feasibility study to investigate the establishment of a hub for scientists, health researchers, the health industry and academics to innovate and test emerging technologies for the delivery of health care.
The feasibility study revealed strong support for such a hub and demonstrated positive outcomes and returns for the Territory.
The Department of Health is working closely with partners to form the governance of the hub and to initiate select projects.
