Initiative
Install smart street lighting to improve community safety and reduce energy consumption in Darwin as part of Switching on Darwin project.
Overview
The City of Darwin, through the Switching On Darwin project, will establish smart street lights in the Darwin CBD. This includes replacing existing road lighting and equipment, and providing additional lighting and ancillary equipment, such as smart control nodes, base stations and gateways.
The street lights will turn on, adjust brightness levels and turn off when required, based on rules that can be set up and changed to suit needs identified by city planners and NT Police.
Benefits
This initiative will make the city precinct safer, reduce council's power consumption and introduce dynamic lighting within the boundaries of the city.
This will confirm and recognise Darwin as a modern and digitally capable capital city.
