Overview
Investigate the use of the national facial recognition database to strengthen existing name-based checking processes for the issue of an NT drivers licence; ensuring applicants don't have an existing licence under a different name.
Benefits
Facial recognition technology will help to reduce the risks of people obtaining multiple drivers licences under different names.
2020 progress update
Motor Vehicle Registry is continuing work with Department of Home Affairs and road agencies to establish cross-border administration and further improve identity management for the purpose of processing driver licence applications in Australia.
