Overview
The Project Initiation Document (PID) is typically developed in the initiate stage.
The PID defines, integrates, and coordinates all project management activities into a single, cohesive document.
It is the main planning document and describes how major aspects of the project will be managed and delivered.
The following provides a list of the typical contents of a PID:
- project definition
- project approach
- business case details – benefits, interdependencies, costs, risks
- project governance structure
- role descriptions
- project control elements
- communication strategy including stakeholder engagement
- project product summary/artefacts
- project plan/schedule.
