ICT Project Management Framework

A high level approach for effectively managing projects and programs across NTG.

Digital technology is changing the Northern Territory’s business environment. It is opening up opportunities for growth and emerging sectors of our economy.

Investing in digital technologies helps make government services more accessible to the public. It enables more efficient government business.

Agency Chief Executives lead and initiate digital solutions. Every solution must align to their strategic plans and Northern Territory Government’s Investment Lifecycle.

The NT Government uses an ICT Project Management Framework. This helps with oversight of digital programs and projects.

ICT Project Management Framework

The project lifecycle stages draws on the PRINCE2® project management method. The aim is to provide a consistent approach that is industry standard.

The project lifecycle has 5 stages: concept, propose, initiate, deliver, and close.

All stages of a project have governance processes that ensure transparency and accountability.

Projects and programs

A project is a temporary structure created to deliver one (or more) business products. Each activity within this structure should align to an agreed business case.

A program is a temporary structure. A program organises and guides the implementation of a group of associated projects. Each program should be strategy driven, aiming to achieve specific outcomes and benefits.

Project management involves the planning, delegating, monitoring and controlling of all project activities. It covers elements such as: time, cost, quality, scope, benefits and risks.
