Deliver Phase 2019

Mobile Data Collection for Horticulture Research

Growing Jobs and Business

Initiative

Horticulture researchers are transitioning from paper based forms to mobile phones and tablet devices to enhance the collection of plant growth measurements.

This data will assist the horticulture industry to improve crop results as part of a focus on agtech.

Overview

Horticulture researchers are transitioning from paper based forms to mobile phones and tablet devices to collect plant growth measurements. This data is automatically uploaded to the Intranet when the mobile device comes within range of the NT Government's Wi-Fi network.

The Department of Primary Industry and Resources is extending the use of the service from internal research teams to start working with industry colleagues on joint projects to understand plant production and protection best practice.

Benefits

Mobile data collection saves significant time for data entry and is useful for research where repeated measurement of the same unit is required over time, for example, individual mango flower terminals or fruit as they mature, or grapes as they develop on the vines.
